The Village Tavern building occupies a large site at the Toothill Village Centre.

Toothill Big Local are delighted to say that we have acquired this building on a 62 year lease. With TLC the site has great potential to offer a wide range of facilities to the local community. There’s lots of work to be done before we are open and up and running for business and drop in sessions will be advertised over the coming weeks to let everyone know more about this. In the meantime if you’d like some more info read below ...

In 2010 the National Lottery announced the 15 year Big Local program whereby 150 locations across England each received a £1,000,000 grant to bring sustainable and legacy improvements for their community. Toothill is part of this programme and Toothill Big Local (TBL) is the community team responsible for its delivery.

Members of the community understandably feel that they have waited a long time to see a large project come out of the TBL programme so we are keen to make visible progress.

We’re sorry we haven’t been able to talk about this sooner – commercial confidentiality and all that! But we can now and will be hosting drop in sessions over the coming weeks and months to explain the finer details and get your input and feedback. In the meantime, here’s a recap of some of what you told us you wanted at the village centre and also some new ideas too. But first, some context …

TBL’s focus has been 2 fold, the delivery of grants via https://www.toothillbiglocal.co.uk/ and delivering the community’s aspiration (established by consultation) to have community facilities at the Toothill Village Centre fit for the 21st century and accessible to all ages and needs.

The Village Tavern is a building located at the Village Centre on a large site which, with investment, is capable of supporting this aspiration. In order to acquire the 62 year lease and operate such a facility, TBL has set up ‘The Hub @ Toothill’ a Community Interest Company limited by guarantee.

TBL investment and many months of work will allow the site to be transformed. Our aspirations include but are not limited to; a variety of community and short term/start up office/work space, outdoor children’s play area and general family space, a family pub with daily food offering, community fridge, a defibrillator as well as access to IT services and a Manshed / Repair café nearby.

We intend to create several employed staff roles to run the facility as well as opportunities to volunteer. We also hope to provide all day on-site administrative support and the opportunity to work with local apprenticeship schemes. The hire cost of facilities will reflect the nature and location of the hirer and any distributable profits will be re-invested in the facility, activities and the continuation of the TBL grants programme.

In summary, we believe that this investment of lottery funding will provide a lasting and sustainable legacy benefiting not only Toothill but also the wider community. Something for everyone…
